“How to Die alone,” a comedy series created and starring Natasha Rothwell, was cancelled after a season on Hulu.

The series was welcomed by Onyx Collective, a Disney content brand that produces projects created from people of color and underrated communities. Onyx offered orders for the series in November 2022 “How To Alone” before it was released in September 2024.

In a statement to Variety, Rothwell wrote that she was “shocked, saddened, and frankly confused” by Onix’s decision. Sources close to the studio show that viewers aren’t strong enough to update “How to Die alone,” but Rothwell is “an undeniable critical, creative and award-winning success.” I claim. In fact, the series achieved 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, variety reviews are called “deliciously crafted” and Rothwell’s performance “Flawless.” It also won the Ensemble Cast Independence Spirit Award for the new Script Series and has held three pending appointments for the NAACP Image Award.

In her statement, Rothwell showed that she was shopping for “how to die alone” on other platforms, saying, “The expression is not just about vision. It’s our story, our existence, It is to ensure that cultural contributions are not erased.”

As the official logline reads, “How to Die alone” starred Rothwell as Mel. Finally, fly and start your life using the necessary means. “Conrad Liccamora, Jocco Sims and Keelin Durrell Jones also starred. Executive producers welcomed alongside Desiree Akhavan and Jude Weng, including Rothwell through her big Hattie Productions Banner and co-showrunner Vera Santamaria Included via strange banners.

Rothwell is best known for appearing on HBO’s “The White Lotus.” Playing Belinda, she was nominated for an Emmy Award in Season 1 and changed her role in Season 3. This will premiere on February 16th. She also wrote and directed HBO’s “Insecure,” and played Kelly, previously writing “Saturday Night Live.”

In addition to “How to Die Alone,” Onyx Collective Projects includes “The 1619 Project” and “Reasonable Doups,” including the comedy series “Deli Boys” and the documentary “Sly Live! (also known as the Black Genius). of (Payment). Previously, the brand was behind “The Other Black Girl” and “Unprisoned.”

Please see Rothwell’s full statement below.

I’m shocked, heartbroken and frankly, I’m confused that Onyx has decided not to move forward in the second season of “How to Die by Yourself.” This is a difficult reality to accept, as the show is an undeniable critical, creative and award-winning success.

This show took me eight years to bring life to me. If there was one thing I learned at the time, it was resilience. I’m not giving up. My team and I are committed to finding a “how to die alone” in our new home for stories like this.

More than ever, television is essential to amplify previously unprecedented voices and prioritize employment and cast decisions that accurately reflect the diversity of the world. Expression is to ensure that not only our vision, but our stories, our existence, and cultural contributions will not be erased.

As Maya Angelou said very wisely, “You may encounter many defeats, but you should not be defeated. In fact, you may need to encounter defeat. That way you can see who you are, where you can get up from, and how it comes out.”

We are rising. And we’re not done.
