“Is this a card that we won’t escape?” Said the shooting director Gabriel Patai (40 years old), after a documentary producer and his wife lost a house that had been restored for nine years. He said he was wondering.

“We are tied to this property and are stuck in LA,” he thought. “Should we leave?”

Patai has revealed that his insurance does not cover the cost of reconstruction. He and his wife are considering postponing a mortgage, and recently applied for a difficult position at their bank.

Employment opportunities are not robust. Patay has recently finished working on Hulu’s documentary, but explained that his current job outlook was “desperate.” Now, the couple is considering reconstructing the house slowly over time if economics can function in some form.

Some people have reconsidered the future in other ways.

Madeline Power, a 32 -year -old producer, was ready to leave Los Angeles before Diaster.

Since I had no work, the last 12 months were “the worst fiscal year in my life”. She sometimes felt as if the city itself had refused her.

Then her house burned out. She found the purpose of using her skills as a producer and helping her to collect funds for her neighbors. Currently, she has a $ 30,000 donation. It’s more money than she had ever had.

There is no doubt about the power heart. She is staying.

“I caught me,” she said. “LA came and it just appeared.”

John Cobbulin has contributed to the report from Alice Mcfaden in New York and Los Angeles.
