Fox News has contradicted President-elect Donald Trump’s statement that Shamsuddin Jabbar, the suspect in the New Year’s car attack in New Orleans, is a “criminal who came to this country.”
In reporting on Wednesday’s attack, a Fox News White House correspondent said of President Trump’s video editing: “Molly and Brian, just to be clear, the suspect was born in the United States. He served in the United States Army. He was a veteran.”
Trump earlier called the attack “pure evil” in a post on his social media platform TruthSocial.
“When I said that the criminals coming in are much worse than the criminals in our country, that statement was constantly refuted by the Democratic Party and the fake news media, but it turns out to be true. “Crime rates are at levels no one has ever seen before,” Trump wrote. “Our hearts are with all of the innocent victims and their loved ones, including the brave officers of the New Orleans Police Department. The Trump Administration is committed to ensuring that the City of New Orleans investigates and recovers from this act of pure evil. We fully support this.”
A video clip of the Fox News moment quickly spread online, as fact-checking of the president-elect has become increasingly rare on conservative news networks. Watch below:
The FBI later confirmed that Jabbar was a U.S. citizen born in the United States, living in Texas, and serving in the U.S. Army Reserve. The agency also acknowledged that the flag displayed on the truck driven by Jabbar appeared to be an ISIS flag.
President Trump and Fox News usually get along well, but the former “Apprentice” host slammed the network in October after agreeing to an interview with rival Kamala Harris ahead of the 2024 election. did.
Trump wrote at the time that Fox had “completely lost its way” and slammed anchors Neil Kabuto, Eric Shawn and Arcel Neville. He claimed that Harris’ spokesman Ian Sams “effectively owns[Fox].”
In a subsequent interview with Maria Bartiromo, he hinted that he intended to boycott the network “because everything is average and nothing,” but he continued to appear before and after the election.
