ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Monday that he does not want to make any deal with the regime and no foreign country will try to get him released. Aleema Khan, the 72-year-old sister of the former cricketer-turned-politician, said this while speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi after the hearing in the Tosha Khan 2.0 case.
Aleema said Khan was asking “why do we need to do a deal when we are facing a lawsuit?” It added that Khan also said he was “going to jail and won’t do any business even after the case is over.”
The statement was issued while the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) team was in talks with the government to address various political issues.
Aleema said the negotiating team will make two demands, including the release of all political prisoners and the establishment of a commission to investigate the violence on May 9, 2023 and November 26 this year.
The next round of bilateral talks is scheduled to be held on January 2 at 11 a.m. in the office of Parliament Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, who will serve as facilitator for both sides.
In a related development, President-elect Donald Trump’s designated advisor Richard Grenell said last week, “I want Imran Khan released from prison. He faces the same charges as Donald Trump. Pakistan. The ruling party imprisoned him on false charges of corruption.
Commenting on Grenell’s statement, Pakistani Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said: “We cannot comment on statements made by specific individuals. We will continue to consult with US authorities.”
Mr Khan also claimed last week that he was offered house arrest from Adiala Jail at his home in Bani Gala as a result of a “deal”, but he did not accept the offer.
“We have received a message that we will make an agreement with you. We will give political space to your party, but we will put you under house arrest and ban you from Bani Gala,” Khan said while speaking to lawyers and journalists on Thursday. We will transfer it to.”
“I said, first, release the remaining political prisoners. I will stay in prison, but I will not accept any deal. I will not go to house arrest or prison in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” Khan said.
The conversation was posted from his social media accounts, but the post does not say who approached Khan with the deal.
Meanwhile, Special Judge Central Shahrukh Khan Arjumand heard the Toshakana 2.0 case filed against Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, who were present in the court.
The statement was recorded by a Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) witness, Mr. Bin Yameen, Director of the Cabinet Department. The witness also presented a register containing details of gifts received by Khan and Bibi and details of the registration of Toshahana gifts in court.
The case was then adjourned until January 2. Khan has been in prison since August last year after being convicted on corruption charges.
