External Affairs Minister (EAM) Jaishankar on Wednesday called on Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to visit him in New Delhi, ahead of talks with President Drupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled for Thursday. He held discussions with foreign officials on bilateral cooperation in several areas. .
“Today, I am honored to visit President Thurman Shanmugaratnam of Singapore. We discussed our cooperation in semiconductors, industrial parks, skills development, digitalization and trade development. We are confident that the President’s state visit will add new momentum to our comprehensive strategy for “partnership,” EAM Jaishankar posted on X after the meeting.
The President of Singapore arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday evening as a state guest as the two countries began celebrations to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. He was the first president of an island nation to visit India.
During his visit, Mr. Shanmugaratnam will meet with President Drupadi Murmu, who will host a dinner in his honor.
The prime minister, accompanied by a high-level delegation including ministers, MPs and officials, will also hold talks with PM Modi following a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday.
President Tharman will also visit Odisha from January 17th to 18th.
“India and Singapore have extensive cooperation based on a long tradition of friendship, trust and mutual respect. It is expected to give further momentum to relations between the countries.” Mr. Narendra Modi will travel to Singapore in September 2024,” a statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
Prime Minister Modi praised the progress of bilateral cooperation in many positive areas.
