Rumors have been circulating in recent weeks that Donatella Versace is stepping down as Versace’s creative director. In December, sources reported that the Italian fashion brand (and Jimmy Choo) were being considered for sale by Capri Holdings, the parent company of both brands. Capri is reportedly working with British bank Barclays to find a buyer for both brands. Donatella’s contract will reportedly be renewed in February, but rumors are swirling within the industry that her contract may not be renewed. Donatella became creative director of the iconic Italian brand (founded in 1978) following the untimely death of her brother Gianni Versace in 1997. Over the past 27 years, Donatella has been ultimately responsible for countless cultural moments that have shaped the world of fashion as we know it. today.

“Who else could do this but Donatella?” (Brandon J. Pierre)
“It would be a great shame if Donatella Versace resigned. She’s a brand for me, although at the moment it seems to have stalled.” (The Frenchie)
“She’s definitely an icon for the brand. But because of that, there’s a lot of work on the new CD in terms of iconography and what she brought back in a fresh way. The vigil is about what happened to Donatella. It was the best thing that ever happened and it was the worst thing that ever happened. Then she was stuck.” (Reese06)
“I don’t think Donatella Versace currently has a say in the design process (and won’t for a while). Probably the design team. Riccardo Tisci would be interesting!” (Prada Romance 2025)
“I’m ready to realize a new vision for Versace that delves deep into what Versace really is. I want to bring back the sexy, glamorous, slightly tacky Versace with great craftsmanship. I also want to revive Atelier Versace.” (Salvatore)
“Can you imagine the rich iconography that her successor will have at her disposal?” (Golden Petals)
