Netflix shows are known for having very long gaps between seasons, and I don’t think this is unique to the service in the streaming era. But now comes news that another Netflix hit series will likely have at least two years between seasons, maybe even more.
It’s One Piece Season 2, and thanks to leaked information from Netflix, we have confirmation that the show will air in 2025, but that’s all we know and that’s it. It seems to reinforce the idea that it will air later this year. If it’s not correct at the end.
Garp actor Vincent Regan previously said he was targeting a Christmas 2025 release, but other sources said 2026 was ultimately more likely. Now, Netflix’s own TUDUM site, while talking about another LEGO collaboration, said that new episodes would arrive in late 2025, and the article has now been deleted, but is archived here. Considering this is Netflix’s official site, it certainly should have a lot of information on it.
One Piece Season 1 began streaming on Netflix on August 31, 2023. Considering all this information, it’s currently unlikely that it will launch any earlier than that in 2025, meaning there will be two full years between seasons. Netflix series can end after a year-and-a-half hiatus, but if the Christmas 2025 date materializes, it will be about 2.3 years. I also think that with Netflix pulling back on the 2025 date, they’re not actually going to commit to it yet and it could actually be 2026 after all. Either way, it’s not good news for those hoping for an early return.

This is…a really huge list of additions. Sure, there are a lot of characters in the anime and manga, but the show tries to condense some of these storylines onto the screen. Additionally, these will be added to the bunch of characters returned. If the current list is accurate, there will be a total of 12 characters. I’m really, really curious to see how all this fits into eight episodes. Eight!
We’ll see how they do it, but yes, this will be an eye-opener, that’s for sure. No wonder it takes so long.
