As the weather system approaches the UK late Saturday, rain could turn into snow as it hits the cold arctic air.
Parts of southern England will experience a brief spell of snow, but the rain will quickly return to rain on Saturday night as a calmer air moves in.
Wales, the Midlands and northern England could see up to 5cm of snow in low-lying areas, with periods of freezing rain and icy conditions possible.
As much as 20-30 cm (8-12 inches) of snow could accumulate in parts of Wales and the Pennines. If the blizzard and blizzard intensify, up to 40 centimeters of snow is expected to accumulate in these areas.
Travel disruptions, power outages and some rural communities may be cut off.
From Sunday into Monday night, the focus of the heavy snow will shift to Scotland, where further yellow warnings have been issued by the Met Office, with 2 to 3 centimeters of snow expected in low areas and up to 20 centimeters in higher areas.
The weather is challenging for forecasters, with cold air drifting across the UK and a weather system carrying rain from the Atlantic.
Determining the amount and exact location of snow more than a day in advance can be difficult, making the forecast uncertain.
