In her new book, Cher: A Memoir Part 1, Cher recalls interesting interludes in a rich history divided into many chapters.
When the Oscar and Grammy winner went to apply for a legal name change in 1979, she discovered that her first name was listed as Cheryl on her birth certificate, which did not match her own name. He wrote that he was “shocked” by the discovery. I thought that was her real name.
“I believed Sherilyn was my name until the day, years later, when I decided to legally change my name to simply Cher,” the “Moonstruck” star recalled of her I wrote it in the record.
She went on to explain that her late mother Georgia Holt, who was 19 when she gave birth to Cher in 1946, was exhausted after giving birth and did not notice the mix-up.
When a nurse entered the room to ask for the baby’s name, the mother replied, “I didn’t know,” Scheer wrote. But when the woman insisted, he said, “Well, Lana Turner is my favorite actress and that’s what the girl is calling me.” Cheryl. My mother’s name is Linda, but what about Cherilyn? ”
After the surprising discovery, Cher wrote that she confronted her mother about it, asking, “Mom, do you even know my real name?”
According to his memoirs, Holt replied: “I was a teenager and I was in a lot of pain. Please let me rest.”
Cher legally changed her name to her famous namesake in 1979, shortening her first name to Cher and dropping her father’s last name Sarkisian, her stepfather Gilbert Hartman LaPierre’s last name, and her ex-husband’s last name. Ta. Sonny Bono and Greg Allman.
