Glen Powell is taking on a new comedic role as quarterback Russ Holliday in Hulu’s upcoming series Chad Powers. In a recently released teaser, Powell’s character, whose college football career is derailed by bad behavior, dons a wig, assumes a new identity, and joins a struggling Southern football team.
The show was inspired by the famous “Eli’s Places” episode in which former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning went undercover as a walk-in recruiter named Chad Powers. In addition to starring in the series, Powell will also serve as co-creator and executive producer alongside Loki’s Michael Waldron.
The teaser offers a glimpse into the show’s quirky setting, as Powell’s character Holiday prepares for an unconventional comeback while proclaiming, “Something is coming…something big.” The comedy promises a light-hearted Ted Lasso-esque exploration of college football culture, with Powell portraying what he calls “the worst man on the planet” cloaked in a friendly Southern demeanor. I accept the challenge.
The series will be produced by NFL legends Eli Manning and Peyton Manning.
