Investing.com – UK shares rose after the close on Wednesday, with sector gains leading share gains.

It rose 0.07% at the London close.

The best performer of the session was BAE Systems PLC (LON:), increasing by 3.12% (36.00 points) to close at 1,190.00. meanwhile, Pershing Square Holdings Co., Ltd. (LON:) Add 2.44% or 98.00 points to end at 4,116.00, standard chartered PLC (LON:) rose 2.08% or 20.50 points to 1,007.50 in late trading.

The worst performer of the session was Barratt Redrow PLC (LON:), down 5.07% (21.30 points) to close at 398.70. united utilities Group PLC (LON:) fell 4.91% or 50.30 points to end at 974.20. JD Sports Fashion PLC (LON:) fell 3.90% (3.96 points) to 97.54.

On the London Stock Exchange, declining issues outnumbered advancing issues by 1,209 to 604, while 593 issues ended unchanged.

Barratt Redrow PLC (LON:) shares fell to a 52-week low. It fell 5.07% (21.30) to 398.70. Standard Chartered PLC (LON:) share price rises to a five-year high. Up 2.08% (20.50) to 1,007.50.

Gold futures for February delivery rose 0.75% ($20.04) to $2,685.44 per troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodity trading, crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.20% (0.89%) to $73.36 per barrel, while the March contract for Brent crude oil fell 1.17% (0.90%) to $73.36 per barrel. It traded at $76.15 per barrel.

GBP/USD fell 0.96% to 1.24, while EUR/GBP rose 0.64% to 0.83.

Dollar index futures rose 0.50% to 108.92.
