Focuses on the Brahmos Pact
According to the Economic Times report, sources indicate that the proposed agreement provides a reliable legal framework for high-level technology transfer and joint production of weapons systems. Detailed discussions are expected when President Prabowo Subianto visits India for four days as the chief guest for Republic Day celebrations.
The report also reveals that the ongoing talks on the Brahmos Supersonic Cruise missile system can be formalized under this agreement. The Indonesian side has expressed interest in technology transfer related to this system. The agreement also adds a layer of facilitation for Russia to be an equal partner in the Brahmos program on a government-to-government basis.
Confidentiality Agreement
According to Economic Times, Indonesia has agreed confidentiality clauses with both Russian and Indian political parties regarding the purchase of Brahmos missiles. This provision is designed to protect against theft and misuse of the technology. Various reports have revealed that discussions are underway for at least three major projects. A collaboration on the Brahmos missile system, air defense systems developed by private companies, and submarine technology.
Air defense systems are being considered for potential joint production, which could lead to significant contracts. The system is particularly attractive as it can be deployed both on land and on Indonesian naval warships, increasing its versatility and strategic value.
