FKA Twigs brings Paris Fashion Week from dystopian chic

Editor’s Note: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly, “Look of the Beead” is a regular series dedicated to unleashing the most talked about costumes of the past seven days.

CNN Style is one of the official media partners of Paris Fashion Week. See all coverage here.

Cult American designer Rick Owens transformed his Paris Fashion Week set into an industrial dystopian futuresscape on Thursday, with models walking in platform boots, wide-collar jackets, and visor-like wraparound sunglasses.

But among the exaggerated sci-fi silhouettes, the most avant-garde look of the afternoon was definitely not the runway, but the star-studded front row.

Singer FKA twigs cut an otherworldly figure as she arrived with a part-shaven bouffant, signature bleached eyebrows and a possibly temporary – facial tattoo.

The English pop star’s bold neo-Gothic outfits comprised pieces from previous Owens collections, including tinted glasses, a rust-colored minidress, and a shearling jacket. Even more eye-catching were the $6,000 over-the-knee carbonated cargo full-rare boots that moved like the bellows of an accordion as they climbed the stairs at Paris’ historic Palais des Tokyo ( (from Owens’ Fall/Winter 2024 collection).

FKA's Twigs poses on the steps of the Palais de Tokyo ahead of Rick Owens' Fall/Winter 2025 menswear show at Paris Fashion Week.

Online commentators pointed out that the musician’s look doesn’t have the look in movies like “The Fifth Element” or “Mad Max.” “FKA Twigs kills the fashion game every time she attends a Rick Owens event,” one X user wrote.

With a distinctly scary aesthetic, Owens’ eponymous label is an obvious fit for FKA Twigs, a celebrity known for her edgy, goth-inspired style. The 37-year-old, who has modeled for Calvin Klein and Swiss Running Brand, is a regular fixture at the designer’s shows.

She’s also often seen wearing his pieces, and she even highlighted an on-set stool chosen from Owens’ furniture collection in a Spotify interview released earlier this week. Meanwhile, Owens’ partner and muse Michelle Lamy appeared in a short film to accompany the singer’s EP “M3LL155X” in 2015.

FKA Twigs has previously chosen major fashion events to promote her music, using her 2023 performance at Italian label Valentino’s Paris Fashion Week Show to debut new song “Everthe Me.” did. And the timing of this week’s head-flying appearance couldn’t have come a day before the release of her new album, “Eusexua,” which is probably no coincidence.

The model was photographed backstage at the Rick Owens show, where the American designer presented his futuristic new collection.

But far from being covered in star looks, Owens was paying a lot of attention to his new designs, especially a pair of knee-high boots that rose with plumes of feathery leather strips.

The designer said his fall/winter 2025 line, called “Concordian,” was inspired by Concordia Sula They in industrial Italy, where the label manufactures its products. In the Paris show notes, Owens recalls sleeping on a couch in a factory office for five years, becoming “immersed” in the “rhythm of industrial production schedules.”
