From dreamy suedes to tasteful brown separates to country-inspired plaids, the best trends for winter 2024 are about finding ways to indulge in warmth and texture in the dark (but festive) days ahead . Below, we’ve compiled our favorite looks for the coming months, drawing inspiration from the Fall 2024 runway shows and the Resort 2025 collection.
This season’s collection was full of ideas on how to update classics, but also with a right-time, right-place styling approach. Tory Burch offers tinsel-like fabrics for daywear, Chloe reignites our love of plaid, Miu Miu makes a strong statement in dark brown, and Valentino offers leopard (and animal print) It has been proven that the pattern (in general) is here to stay.
Below, I’ve shopped out the nine best resort 2025 and 2024 winter trends, including everything from essentials I’m already wearing to statement splurges that simply bring you joy.
scarf neckline
Scarf coats have been trending since the beginning of fall, and designers are now incorporating this dreamy neckline into sweaters (like Jil Sander) and blouses (like Kalmeyer). These tops and coats look sophisticated when paired with solid-colored pants, but feel coolest when paired with black or cream-colored jeans and boots.
casual wear for celebrations
Who said going to work can’t feel like a party this winter, at least when it comes to dressing up? Tory Burch’s embellished skirts and Dries Van Noten’s tinsel scarves are meant to be worn during the day and provide the ultimate holiday vibe.
To the free-spirited countryside
This fall, Chloe has us all wearing bohemian ruffles, which is more of a warm-weather phenomenon. When temperatures are cooler, boho girls tend to reach for British country-inspired pieces, such as the brand’s checkered oversized wool cape-like coats. Complete the look with a Fair Isle sweater or cozy cable knits and durable knits
minimalist accessories
Please try purchasing it once. That way you can enjoy its benefits all winter long. From Khaite’s leather gloves layered beautifully with a white shirt to Toteme’s leather belt to complete a pencil skirt or pant look, simplicity is the best winter accessory trend.
suede! Corduroy! velvet!
A wardrobe staple made from rich, deeply textured fabrics is back. What could be more luxurious than an oversized suede blazer? (Thank you, Mrs. Prada.) For a modern take on velvet, Valentino and Saint Laurent created skirts and bags in gorgeous colors perfect for winter. I made it. Corduroy, also known as winter pinstripes, makes the perfect elongated pants.
shearling maxi coat
The runway was filled with long, brightly colored shearling coats, an updated take on the aviator style we’ve been seeing lately. If you’re looking to rock the perfect pair of winter white boots and have some total fun, try towering white boots like the Proenza Schouler.
chocolate brown
This time last year, I couldn’t stop talking about the dark brown bag takeover. This season, the color has made its way into our ready-to-wear wardrobes, thanks to the first look of Miu Miu’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection. Find crisp winter coats, rich suede bags, and every garment imaginable in chic cocoa hues.
Animal print all over
This season, a variety of prints are channeling our animal instincts, from leopard (the new neutral!) to snakeskin. Turn heads with zebra pants or try a bag inspired by the big cat family to spice up a more minimalist look.
wine colored office attire
This winter’s work is happy hour with tailored separates, leather-inspired trench coats, and rich burgundy bomber jackets. Make a statement with your footwear by pairing oxblood loafers with straight-leg trousers. Simply add a pair of gray socks to break up the style and keep you warm when the temperatures drop.
