Controversy surrounding Beast Games
Despite the hype, Beast Games has faced controversy. In September, five contestants filed a class action lawsuit against MrBeast and Amazon, citing workplace abuse, unsafe conditions, and harassment during production. The allegations include deprivation of food, sleep and medical care, as well as physical injury and hospitalization for some contestants. The lawsuit also accuses the film of promoting a culture of misogyny and sexism, with women reportedly subjected to public humiliation. The cast also claims they were forced to enter into “illegal contracts” where they were misclassified as volunteers in order to qualify for tax benefits while filming in Las Vegas.
The New York Times verified these claims in an August report, pointing to extreme weather and logistical issues during filming. A spokesperson for MrBeast said the difficulties were due to these complications, but did not directly address the lawsuit. Neither MrBeast’s team nor Amazon have commented on the lawsuit.
