Batman first appeared in 1939, and since his first television appearance in 1966’s Batman, the caped crusader has been played by a number of talented actors.
It’s hard to believe, but Batman has been played by 10 different actors in live-action films and television since his inception, and many more have played the role in animated and video game productions.

It’s safe to say that fans are obsessed with billionaire-turned-vigilante Bruce Wayne, and nearly 90 years after he first appeared in comic books, he remains one of the most iconic No wonder he is one of the superheroes.
The role has been played in recent years by actors such as Christian Bale and Ben Affleck (though one has been more successful than the other), and more recently Robert Pattinson, who will be taking on the mask and cape in 2022’s The Batman. He played the role wearing one.
Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman was a success, grossing $771 million at the box office, resulting in The Batman Part II being released in theaters on October 2, 2026. It’s planned.
However, a recent rumor provided by Marvel and DC insider MyTimeToShineHello claims that DC Studios CEO James Gunn wants a middle-aged actor to play Batman in the DCU’s future.
This rumor was recently shared on r/DC_Cinematic and, as you might expect, many hardcore fans had a lot to say about the possible casting.
“They’re casting unknowns for other Justice League members. They’re hoping the big names will bring Batman more attention to the DCU as a whole,” commented BatmanNewsChris.
Other suggestions range from keeping Pattinson in the role to Affleck, while others have suggested new faces like Lee Pace, Henry Cavill, and even… Zendaya. I support it.
JefferyTheQuaxly said: “I feel like to Hollywood, middle-aged means someone who’s around 35 to 40 (or at least an actor who can realistically play 35 to 40), and that’s just like him.” Damian Wayne and more I would like to add an adult Robin/Nightwing to the series. ”
Whoever takes on the role of Batman for the future of the DCU will have some big shoes to fill, but for now we can look forward to Pattinson’s portrayal in 2026’s The Batman Part II.
