Australia captain Pat Cummins: “It was a great series. It’s been on the calendar for a while and we’ve been eyeing it for a year or two. It lived up to all the hype.

“I’m very proud. We’ve spent a lot of time together as a group over the years. We knew we weren’t at our best in Perth, but it wasn’t as bad as we thought it would be.” We doubled down on what makes us great.” There were positives, and we had a lot of fun along the way.

“We have talked about the need for a squad. Especially in these five games, we rarely play with the same squad. We have three debutants who have come on at different times and contributed. I feel like we’re building something good.”

“There were some key moments where some of our key players really stepped up. That’s what you need to do to beat a team like India, and in those key moments they raised their hands.”

India captain Jasprit Bumrah: “There are a lot of ifs and buts. The whole series was well fought and we were in the game today too, so it wasn’t completely one-sided. .

“That’s the way Test cricket works, where any team stays on edge for a long time and at the moment you come together and try to find a way out of it, win the series or not.

“It was a great series. Congratulations to Australia. They fought really well for a well-deserved victory.”
