Music maestro AR Rahman celebrated his 58th birthday on January 6th. The musician won two Oscar awards and made India proud. Not only that, but his talent has won him many awards on the national and international stage. In honor of his birthday, let’s take a look at some of Rahman’s achievements and awards that showcase his incredible talent.

AR Rahman started his career by co-starring Ilaiyaraaja in many films. He made his debut as music director in 1992 with Mani Ratnam’s Roja. The film featured Arvind Swami and Madhu in the lead roles. Roja’s album was a huge hit and marked the emergence of Rahman and his musical style. Additionally, he won the Best Musical Director Award at the 40th National Film Awards.

Luhrmann has composed music for films in multiple languages ​​over the years. His work in notable Tamil and Hindi films became chartbusters not only in India but across the world.

Entering the international stage

AR Rahman collaborated with Andrew Lloyd Webber on Bombay Dreams. This is a Bollywood-themed musical that was released in 2002 and ran for over two years. His musicals have made a huge mark on the international stage, introducing foreign audiences to his musical style.

Slumdog Millionaire won two Oscars and one Grammy.

In 2008, AR Rahman made history by winning two Oscars in one night for Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire. At the 81st Academy Awards, he won Best Original Score and Best Original Song for Jai Ho. He won Golden Globe Awards for “Slumdog Millionaire” and “127 Hours.”

In 2010, he won two Grammy Awards for “Slumdog Millionaire.” Over the years, he won many awards, including the British Academy Awards, Critics Choice Film Awards, and Asian Film Awards.

Established KM Music Academy

In 2013, AR Rahman established KM Conservatory of Music in Chennai. This music school trains young musicians in singing and playing instruments, providing them with a strong foundation to pursue a professional career in music.

AR Rahman was awarded the prestigious Padma Bhushan award in 2019. As of 2024, he has won 7 National Film Awards, 18 Filmfare Awards, 16 IIFA Awards, etc. According to reports, Rahman won nearly 175 awards out of 152 nominations.

Recently, AR Rahman won the Best Background Score (Foreign Language) at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards for the film ‘Aadujeevitham – The Goat Life’.
