Sitar player Anushka Shankar, daughter of sitar virtuoso Ravi Shankar, is on a roll. Reason: She was nominated for a 2025 Grammy Award. Ahead of the much-awaited gala, Anushka gave an interview to NDTV’s Abira Dhar.

In one corner, Anushka Shankar shared an interesting anecdote about her father. FYI: Ravi Shankar has won four Grammy Awards. But did you know that he once lost two of the awards he won?

Elaborating on the topic, Anushka Shankar said, This has become a hot topic…how do you miss out on the Grammys? he didn’t know where it was. He said he left it in his suitcase at a friend’s house. ”

Anushka Shankar added that her mother called the Grammy Foundation and requested them to give Ravi Shankar a new award. “She called them and they said, ‘Yes, we can do it no problem.’ Which one did he lose?’ She said, ‘What do you mean? They said, “He’s won two Grammys, which one is better?” ’,” the sitar player said.

Ravi Shankar didn’t realize he won two Grammy Awards.

In conclusion, Anushka Shankar said: He thought he only had one. He lost two and didn’t even know there were two. That was my Grammy experience. That wasn’t the only thing he cared about. It was about music. In a way, it’s a very beautiful reminder of what’s really important. He already had those two when I was born. ”

Ravi Shankar won his first Grammy Award in 1967 for Best Chamber Music Performance for West Meets East. It was a great collaboration with violinist Yehudi Menuhin. He passed away in 2012. A year later, the legendary sitarist received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Meanwhile, Anushka Shankar has been nominated for the 67th Grammy Awards along with Indian artists Ricky Kay, Radhika Vekaria, Chandrika Tandon and Valyashree Venugopal. She collaborated with British multi-instrumentalist Jacob Collier on the song “A Rock Somewhere”. The song is up for an award in the Best Global Music Performance category.

This year’s Grammy Awards will be held on February 2nd at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
