James Gunn’s DCU is finally moving forward, with recent revelations that former Aquaman actor Jason Momoa will be returning to the DC Universe as Lobo. Even before it was revealed that Momoa would be returning, everyone was hoping Henry Cavill would return as an alternate version of Superman or as a different character.
There are many possibilities for each actor within the wide catalog of comic characters Gunn can choose from. Thankfully, the cast of Old Justice League all have pretty good range, and can definitely transition into Crews’ fan favorite, Cavil, in particular, Cavil Without Bars. This list provides suggestions for new characters that the old Justice League could play in the DCU. Their previous performance will always be remembered, but there’s no reason why they can’t move forward in another role.

jason momoa
robot
This choice is pretty obvious, as it has already been officially confirmed by both Gunn and Momoa. He’s been confirmed for Supergirl: Ladies and Gentlemen, so fans know when to expect his look. This has been fan casting for quite some time, as the actor looks surprisingly similar to how the character is portrayed in the comics. Lobo is one of the biggest Superman villains yet to exist in a live-action movie, and it’s a huge development for everyone involved.
Momoa not only looks like a space mercenary, he also has the same energy. Lobo is really much better casting for Momoa than his previous role as the King of Atlantis. Although he was excellent in the role, it’s safe to assume audiences will enjoy Momoa much more as the iconic mercenary with a touch of humor. It would be amazing to see someone from the DCEU get another chance at DC Cinema.

gal gadot
Zatanna Zatara
Many people really enjoyed Gal Gadot’s work, especially in her first solo film, Wonder Woman. Naturally, those fans want to see her get another chance in the DC universe. Another character that Gadot could certainly pull off is Zatanna Zatara, one of this universe’s best magic users. Having magic users in the DCU is definitely necessary for the threats the world will have to face in the future. Zatanna is one of DC’s most underrated characters. So her inclusion is meant to correct this lack of attention.
The trait that people appreciate about Gadot is that she looks like the character. She could also set the stage for introducing other magic-based supers into this newborn movie universe. Gadot knows how to portray noble and stoic heroes. This can definitely be used to describe both Wonder Woman and Zatanna. In short, if both Gunn and Gadot decide to work something out together, this powerful magician would be a great choice.

ezra miller
no one
With the intense controversy and arrest and the absolute failure of DC’s latest movie, The Flash, it’s unanimous that no one wants Ezra Miller back after everything that happened in real life. We unanimously agree. It’s very likely that Gunn and DC Studios don’t want the actor back either. Nothing is certain, but we can speculate about what might happen based on public perception.
Miller hasn’t worked since The Flash and doesn’t have anything on the horizon. So they might be taking a step back from acting for a little while. There’s not much that can be said about the actors and their whole situation that hasn’t been said a million times. It’s a very delicate situation overall, and it’s probably best not to be associated with the DCU and its future projects.

ray fisher
John Henry Irons/Steel
If anyone deserves another go to the DC Universe, it’s Ray Fisher. Especially after the debacle that occurred after the release of Justice League. He would be a perfect fit for a hero who has recently found considerable praise and gained many fans. John Henry Irons, aka Steel. After his appearance in Superman & Lois exploded in popularity, people want more of Steele than ever.
Fisher has everything needed to bring a character like this to life, including the confidence and emotional depth needed to play the character. Although Steel gained a lot of attention through his role on the hit series, general viewers still don’t know much about him. Bringing in such a recognizable and talented actor like Fisher would be a sure bet to rectify Steele’s lack of popularity. However, given the public tensions with DC regarding the current communications regarding the filming and release of Justice League, there may be a possibility that the performer does not want to be on the line for the new film.

ben affleck
Scott Free/Mr. Miracle
One of the best DC comic books to come out in the past decade is Tom King’s run with the title “Mister Miracle.” The story of Scott Free, aka Mister Miracle, in New Gods is very compelling and realistic, despite being a plot rich with gods and monsters. Scott Free is a disheveled man trying to live a happy life with his wife, Big Barda, and even a child (on whom the evil Darkseid eventually sets his sights).
Ben Affleck actually overshadowed this more grizzled and tired vibe with his portrayal of Batman. It’s also a reflection of the actor himself. It can be assumed that after everything he has been through in life, a man wants to live a peaceful and happy life, completely paralleling the story of Mister Miracle. Affleck has the look, too, and that’s abundantly clear. Although his Batman has had a lot of interference, Affleck is an absolutely phenomenal performer and would kill Scott’s free role.

henry cavill
Hercules
At this point, everyone knows that Henry Cavill wants to make a big comeback into DC movies more than anyone else in the DCEU. He briefly returned to the superhero genre overall with quick cameos in Deadpool and Wolverine. Superman is the perfect superhero role for the actor considering his look and scope, and that doesn’t mean this has to be the end of his time in the DC Universe. A few characters will suit him very well.
Hercules is the definition of a jacked hero and the same can be argued about Cavill as a human being. The British actor is fit enough to play the Greek legend, giving him the opportunity to play a character who often acts as a foil to Superman as they write the book together. Cavill’s casting as Hercules could open the door for sassy moments between Cavill and David Corrensweatt.
