CNN
—

President-elect Donald Trump is expected to nominate Brooke Rollins, one of his former policy advisers, to be Secretary of Agriculture, three sources familiar with the discussions told CNN.

Nominations are expected, but nothing will be officially announced until President Trump makes an announcement.

CNN reported Friday that President Trump is open to offering the post to businesswoman and former Georgia senator Kelly Loeffler, who met with the president-elect at Mar-a-Lago on Friday afternoon. There has been some discussion about the position between Loeffler and the transition team. But President Trump refrained from announcing his agriculture nomination on Friday night while announcing a number of other nominees, raising questions about whether Loeffler was ultimately offered the position. Arose.

Rollins is the CEO of the America First Policy Institute, a group with close ties to the Trump transition team, and has been a vocal supporter of the president-elect.

She congratulated Trump following his election victory earlier this month, writing in a post on X: “Mr. President, we love you. For an America built around your America First vision. I’m very proud to continue the fight.”

Rollins’ name had previously been floated as a possible White House chief of staff. But Rollins resigned after it became clear that seeking the role would lead to a serious power struggle with Susie Wiles, who was ultimately nominated for the role.

Sources said Rollins told the transition team that agriculture secretary would also be a position of interest. Mr. Trump and Mr. Rollins spoke about their roles this week.

Rollins served as director of the White House Domestic Policy Council during President Trump’s first term. Prior to that, he served as chairman of the Texas Public Policy Foundation, a conservative think tank, for 15 years.

The Wall Street Journal first reported Rollins’ projected pick.
