Quantum computing remains the holy holy grail in the technology world. It promises a big leap in computing power, but only if someone understands how to refuse the fault rate that hinders the scaling of technology.
Currently, one of the most promising quantum startups in Europe has announced a major funding to support working for solutions.
Alice & Bob, a startup based in Paris, is a pioneer in the CAT QUBIT quantum architecture and has raised € 100 million. Using this series B, we are planning to continue working to build a “Fall Torrant” quantum computer (accepting errors and working around them) based on the cat cubit. Alice & Bob believes that the first “useful” quantum computer will be available by 2030.
“From Go -Go, Alice & Bob had a very clear vision of how to make quantum computers (and) it all related to falltrance,” said CEO and co -founder Théauperonnin. The appetite for more computing power has been the best so far. This is a belief that is emphasized in major projects such as commitments of $ 500 billion Stargate AI Data Center in the United States, and a significant boost recently seen by computing chip manufacturers like NVIDIA.
As Peronnin sees, conventional computing architecture is not accepted in the long term and promises more efficiency than conventional processors, promoting investment in quantum computing.
“Computing is becoming a productive core source, and Quantum is a potential game changer here,” he said. “The game continues.”
This investment is jointly leaded by Qatar’s Future French champions (FFC), AVP (AXA Venture Partners), and BPIFRANCE. This co -leads in 2022 Series A of $ 30 million. For some guidance, RiverLane (Alice & Bob’s partner) was evaluated last year for about $ 400 million. We understand that Alice and Bob are equivalent to the same evaluation between $ 300 million and $ 400 million from multiple sources.
This contract represents one of the larger rounds of European quantum computing startups. However, especially in the quantum industry, it has not happened in vacuum.
Financial procurements in this space include reversal. It has built a technology for modifying quantum errors and raising $ 75 million. The Quantum CHIP MAKER SEEQC raised $ 30 million earlier this month. It is also reported that quantum machines are in the process of raising $ 100 million. On the other hand, Google used AlphaQubit in November 2024 to show a breakthrough in a fault removal race. This is an AI system that states that you can automatically identify quantum calculation errors. And Microsoft and Atom Computing promised to release commercial quantum computers this year.
Both the name of the startup and the cat Qubit are the keys of what they are built. “Alice & Bob” is a reference to two fictional characters often used as the prototype of virtual thinking experiments in fields such as encryption and quantum physics.
There is a theoretical reference for the components of Alice & Bob’s system. Alice & Bob does not pursue a method of reducing the fault by throwing more cubits depending on the problem (Qubits is a typical building block of the quantum computing system), but an architecture called “Cat QUBIT”. I devised it. This is a reference to Schrodinger’s cat, an idea that there is something in the “two states” at once. In fact, while correcting other things, we accept some obstacles (therefore “fault resistance”).
As Peronnin explains, “CAT QUBIT is a special Kikubit design for the purpose of correcting direct errors at the hardware level. Half of them are not half of them, but not half. It is actually the first layer of the incidental error correction. “
Alice & Bob’s investors believe this can be the key to making Quantum a commercial reality.
“The reality is at the center of our discussions on quantums in the investment industry,” said François Robinet, a partner of AVP. He said that while watching Alice & Bob for many years, AVP did not want to invest before it was “R & D”, like many others. But now, he said that Quantum CHIP architecture seemed to be able to support 48 cubits.
