Ratings for 2025 Golden Globe Awards will rise from 2024

The Golden Globe Awards are also getting more exciting. According to CBS, ratings for the awards show were up from last year’s event.

Sunday’s awards ceremony, hosted by Nikki Glazer, drew 10.1 million viewers, according to VideoAmp statistics. That’s an increase of more than 7% from a year ago, when CBS aired the awards for the first time since 1982.

Live streams on the CBS app and Paramount+ were up 9% from a year ago.

CBS has been using VideoAmp as its ratings provider in recent months during its contract dispute with Nielsen. Although the measurements from both companies are generally similar, they do not necessarily match.

The 2024 Golden Globes averaged 9.47 million viewers, a 51% increase from the 6.25 million who watched the last show on NBC in 2023, according to Nielsen. Like the Sunday show, last year’s Globes aired CBS’ late afternoon NFL games as a lead-in (it aired opposite Sunday Night Football, the last of the season on NBC). NBC’s SNF game brought 28.5 million viewers to the network, the highest number for an SNF season finale since 2012, according to Nielsen.

The improved numbers, especially against a strong NFL game, bode well for the awards show, which has a five-year deal with CBS after leaving NBC, where it hosted the show for decades.

Golden Globe producer Dick Clark Productions is owned by Penske Media Eldridge, a joint venture between Penske Media Corporation and Eldridge that also owns The Hollywood Reporter.
