“Squid Game” Season 2 is now available on Netflix. Since its meteoric debut in 2021, viewers have been searching for the next “squid game.” The series is a bloody Korean tale of dystopian class warfare, and its first season was the most-watched series in Netflix history.
Following its own success, Netflix last year announced plans to invest $2.5 billion in new Korean media, including scripted dramas.
Amazon Prime Video add-on “The Auditors” Shin Ha-kyun’s deadpan performance as a supernaturally gifted corporate fraud investigator sets the tone for this unusual procedure that tracks down the audit team of a deeply corrupt JU construction company. Set. Singh plays Chail, the ever-frustrating and hyper-vigilant leader of the audit department, who helps unravel various scandals and white-collar crimes. Despite the good example set by naive new auditor Han Soo (Lee Jeong Ha), Chail’s prickly attitude does not soften much. Nevertheless, Shin steals most of the scenes, playing the role with a nice combination of deductive reasoning and righteous indignation. Chail may not be shy, but Shin makes him one of the most interesting new protagonists in Korean dramas this year.
Netflix’s “Chicken Nuggets”
In this quirky sci-fi comedy, two down-on-their-luck office workers wrestle with an absurd metaphysical dilemma: “What would you do if the person you loved wandered into a mystery cabinet and turned into a chicken nugget?” I’ll throw it. Based on the gonzo webtoon series of the same name, “Chicken Nugget” follows Sung Man (Ryu Seung Ryong), a struggling small business owner, and his happy intern Baek Joon (Ahn Jae Hong). , they try to return Sung Man’s daughter Mina (Kim Yoo Jung) to her human form. The show’s tone changes frequently to match the runaway plot, and its digressive subplots include time travel, a mad scientist and his jealous nephew, and Baek Joon’s food critic ex-girlfriend (celebrity fashion model Jung). – played by Hoyoung). Come for the unpredictable mystery and come for the surreal humor.

“Detective Chief 1958” is available to watch on Hulu

Lee Je-hoon is attracting attention as the role of Young-han, a small-town detective who fights against corruption in the big city in this refreshing period detective drama. “Detective Manager 1958” serves as a prequel to the popular series “Detective Manager” (1971-89), but to enjoy watching Young-han and a team of good-natured sociopaths take on powerful detectives, we recommend You don’t need to be familiar with the show. Local gangsters and unscrupulous cops. Lee injects charm and his energetic performance makes you want to root for Yong-han, the naive hero who could have seemed like an unbearably despicable do-gooder. The co-stars also excel in supporting roles, with Lee Dong-hwi as the stubborn mad dog and Choi Deok-moon as Dae-cheon, Young-han’s respected leader, performing particularly well.

Netflix’s “Miss Night and Day”

Part body-swap romantic comedy and part serial murder mystery, “Miss Knight and Day” pairs talented but unemployed 20-something Mi-jin (Jung Eun-ji) with the conflicted Ji-eun (Choi Jin-hyuk). The district attorney has no idea that Mi-jin is Im-sung (Lee Jeong-eun), an employee in his 40s. Mi-jin transforms into Im-sung during the day and returns to her original body at night when she meets a stray cat owned by Mi-jin’s aunt. Ji-eun happens to be investigating Mi-jin’s aunt’s disappearance and the disappearances of several other middle-aged women. Ji-eun’s quest doesn’t go anywhere memorable, but the drama is otherwise captivating.

“No Gain No Love” on Amazon

Hye-young’s office job has promotions that are limited to married couples, and an unstable businessman, Hye-young (Shin Min-ah), and an underperforming convenience store clerk, Ji-wook (Kim Young-dae) are brought together in a marriage of convenience. Unfortunately for Hye-young, her business is run by the parents of her rough ex-boyfriend Gyu-hyun (Lee Sang-yi). Gyu-hyun makes life difficult for Hae-young as she climbs the social ladder, and ends up going on a date with Hae-young’s roommate. Ja-young (Han Ji-hyun) is a popular romance novelist. While some Korean drama fans don’t like that Gyu-hyun lingers on screen too much, his relationship with Ja-young provides a gentle compliment to Ji-wook and Hye-young’s cliched but satisfying romance. I am. The show’s genre-savvy and unique plot tells Hye-young’s crowd-pleasing story with the strangest of twists.
