The weekend before Christmas, here on Netflix.
There are also fun and festive shows and a selection of entertaining movies.
When Joy Log isn’t burning brightly on TV,
How about watching something fun?

As we enter the final countdown to Christmas, our advent calendars are down to single digits (and we hope your shopping list is too). On the last weekend before the big climax of the holiday season, why not sit back and watch a stream that captures the magic of the holidays? An unconventional double feature of The Nutcracker and A Christmas Carol, The Adventures of Santa Wait for a fully loaded sleigh or a delicious cookie-making extravaganza. Enjoy streaming, everyone. And good night everyone!

First things first, what’s new with Netflix?

An essential piece of American history. Tyler Perry’s new drama The Six Triple Eight is based on a 2019 World War II History magazine article by Kevin M. Hymel and tells the story of the 6888th General Post Directory Battalion. I’m drawing. The 6888th General Post Battalion was America’s only black, all-female battalion sent to Europe during World War II. II. Kerry Washington stars as Major Charity Adams in this film. Not up to the task? Check it out: A new three-part documentary series, Aaron Rodgers: The Enigma, examines the storied quarterback’s career and chronicles his recovery from injury in 2023. If that’s not enough to satisfy your soccer cravings, hold out until Wednesday. Two NFL games, Kansas City Chiefs vs. Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans, will be streamed live on Netflix on Christmas Day. The latter features a halftime show by Beyoncé.

If only for one night…

Follow the vision of sugar plums dancing in your head. Directed by Oliver Bokelberg, the 2020 documentary Dance Dreams: Hot Chocolate Nutcracker focuses on the annual Christmas show, legendary choreographer Debbie Allen, who created a vibrant, modern reinterpretation of the popular ballet. Masu. To double the holiday magic (and add echoes of the Dickensian Christmas classic), continue with Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square, a musical directed and choreographed by none other than Allen. Let’s try it. Christine Baranski plays a ruthless businesswoman who plans to evict the residents of her hometown, until she is visited by an angel (Parton) and given some cheeky lessons about the true meaning of Christmas.

If you have a whole day…

Spend time with great people. As Santa’s vigil approaches, you can cheer him on with a mini-marathon of different stories about Santa. First up is Simon Otto’s new animated comedy, That Christmas (co-written by Love Actually filmmakers Richard Curtis and Peter Souter), about a small town thrown into chaos by a blizzard on Christmas Eve. Brian Cox provides the voice of Saint Nick in the story. From there, we travel back in time with Sergio Pablos’ Klaus to provide another origin story for the legendary figure. JK Simmons’ distinctive voice provides the voice of the title character, a reclusive woodworker, while Jason Schwartzman provides the voice of the mailman who works with him to deliver toys to children. And the sequel to Clay Kaytis’ comedy The Christmas Chronicles and Chris Columbus features a live-action Santa, a very cool Kurt Russell in a red suit, and Goldie Hawn as Klaus. She co-stars as his wife.

If you have time for a whole weekend…

Don’t forget the cookies and milk! It’s ‘The Great British Baking Show: Holidays’ season. The new two-part Season 7 is here and (along with all six of its predecessors) is ready to brighten up your week. Don’t worry if you eat it too quickly. The second season of Nailed It has more treats, and even more shenanigans. Holiday! presents creations that may resemble your own baking endeavors.

Remember, you have one last chance…

…for house calls. Andrew Lenczewski and John P. Rodgers’ USA Network drama Royal Pains ran for eight seasons and starred Mark Feuerstein as a talented doctor who becomes a concierge doctor for a wealthy Hamptons family. There is. By the end of the month, doctors will be on vacation.
