Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company xAI announced that its upgraded Grok-2 chatbot is now available for free to all users of social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The company says Grok-2 is faster, more accurate, and includes new features such as image generation.
Following the release of Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini in August, xAI has upgraded the Grok-1.5 model. The company highlighted that Grok-2 is three times faster and has improved command following and multilingual capabilities.
Additionally, a new “Grok” button has been integrated into the X Timeline, allowing users to access real-time insights, explore trending topics, and get context related to posts.
Key Features of Grok-2 Search Results and Citations: Grok uses X and the broader web to provide accurate answers in real time. New citation features allow users to review information and explore sources in more detail.
Image Generation – Draw, Grok! With the addition of Aurora, Grok can now generate more photorealistic images and memes. The “draw me” feature allows users to create reimagined versions of themselves using the X profile.
Contextual Analysis – Grok, Analysis! The “Grok” button provides contextual insights and deeper analysis of discussion trends across the X platform.
API access and pricing
xAI also announced the public release of its Enterprise API with new models grok-2-1212 and grok-2-vision-1212. These models offer improved accuracy, better followability of instructions, and improved multilingual support.
API access is available to developers, and pricing is set at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. New users receive a free $25 credit when they sign up.
The company also revealed that Aurora will be integrated into its API in the coming weeks, allowing developers to generate photorealistic images for their applications.
availability
Grok is available for free to all users, but the free version has some limitations: 10 messages every 2 hours and 3 image analyzes per day. Premium and Premium+ users have higher usage limits and early access to new features.
xAI plans to continue improving and expanding Grok’s capabilities in the coming months.
