World Robot Conference 2024: 5 humanoid robots that caught the attention of 5 people

The World Robot Conference 2024, held in Beijing, China, was an astonishing event that showed the latest advances in robotics. The five-day meeting featured over 27 humanoid robot models, captivated over 169 exhibitors and showed over 600 innovative products. The event highlights China’s growing ambition to lead the global robotics industry as the country continues to invest heavily in technology. We’ll take a closer look at five humanoid robots that attracted attention from participants and global media at this year’s conference.

5 Humanoid Robots at World Robot Conference 2024

Astribot S1: Multi-faceted Assistant

Developed by Stardust Intelligence, the Astribot S1 is a humanoid assistant robot designed to accurately perform a variety of tasks. First introduced in a demo video in April 2024, the Astribot S1 demonstrated its ability by folding a shirt and pouring wine. At the World Robot Conference, Astribot S1 impressed participants with calligraphy skills and introduced their ability to perform delicate and artistic tasks. The versatility and dexterity of robots will become outstanding in the field of humanoid assistants.

Naviai: A semi-human innovator

Created by the Zhejiang Humanoid Robot Innovation Center, Naviai made its debut at the conference and quickly became a crowd favorite. With a weight of 60 kilograms, Naviai is designed to mimic human behavior, offering speeches, making tea and playing chess. The semi-humanity of robots and their ability to perform a wide range of tasks become a key innovation in humanoid robotics. Naviai creators are intended for use in a variety of applications, from public speaking to hospitality.

Agibot: The Future of Delivery

Agibot, a series of five robots developed by a Shanghai-based startup, is set to revolutionize the delivery industry. Founded by former Huawei employees, Agibot aims to deploy these humanoid robots for delivery services by mid-October 2024. The robot is designed to handle tasks such as delivering items, serving as sales representatives, teaching visitors to gallery, picking factory parts and more. With plans to manufacture large batches of 300 robots, Agibot has established itself as a key player in automated delivery and customer service.

Wanda: Household Helper

Wanda, a double-armed humanoid robot developed by Japanese company UNIX AI, is designed to help with housework. Wheel-mounted Wanders can perform tasks like washing and cooking, making them a practical solution for home automation. Featuring stain recognition and multi-faction primitive fusion technology, Wanda can easily wash dishes and handle other kitchen tasks. During the meeting, Wanda’s cooking skills are fully displayed, indicating her potential to become an essential home assistant.

Optimus: Tesla’s flagship humanoid

Tesla’s Optimus Humanoid Robot also appeared at the World Robot Conference, but remained in the glass case as attendees took photos. Despite its stationary display, Optimus is one of the most talked about robots in the industry. Earlier this year, Elon Musk announced that the two Optimus robots are already functioning autonomously in one of Tesla’s factories. The company has ambitious plans to produce these robots for internal use by next year, hoping to expand production for other companies by 2026.

World Robot Conference 2024: Additional Highlights

Apart from these five outstanding humanoids, the World Robot Conference 2024 also features a variety of other robot innovations. The robots were seen playing traditional Chinese martial arts, playing Zither (string instruments), and even opening soda cans. Additionally, Wisson Technology, based in Shenzhen, has introduced a flexible 3D printed robot manipulator. These components are more cost-effective than traditional transmission devices, but as industry experts have pointed out, there are concerns about their reliability.
