Buddy the Elf wasn’t in the mood to spread holiday cheer at Crypto.com Arena on Sunday night.
Actor and comedian Will Ferrell attended a game between the Kings and the Philadelphia Flyers wearing the pointy hat and green coat worn by the main character in the classic 2003 film Elf.
“Buddy the Elf is officially coming to #Hockeywood,” the Kings posted on I posted a second video.
But something seems a little different about the 2024 version of Buddy. A few things starting with the look on his face.
He kept frowning. Most people experience bad days from time to time, but the ever-upbeat Buddy of 21 years ago wasn’t most people.
“I just like to laugh,” he says in the film. “I like your smile the most.”

In the film, Buddy is an adult human raised by elves in the North Pole, but travels to New York to meet his biological father. At the time, Buddy struggled to integrate into a disaffected and cynical society, but he seems to have adapted over the past 20 years.
Buddy committed several vices during the movie, almost all of which involved large amounts of sugary substances, but it seems like he has since moved on to something tougher. Buddy was seen looking quite disheveled at the Kings game, holding what appeared to be an unlit cigarette in his mouth and drinking what appeared to be beer.
FanDuel Sports Network broadcaster Carlin Beiss reported that she reached out to Buddy during the game and that Buddy told him it had been a “tough holiday season.”
I hope Buddy is in a better mood after the Kings’ 5-4 win.
