After upgrading your iPhone as follows, iOS18.2 and apple intelligenceI want to say “Hey Siri” and see a new animation that fills the edges of the entire screen with a glowing spectrum of colors, visually distorting objects as if the screen were made of liquid or iridescent cloth. I was thinking.

Instead, the same animated sphere appeared at the bottom of the iPhone screen.

I knew I needed to take one more step before I tried it. Smarter Siri — as well as other Apple Intelligence features such as the Writing Tools. Notification overview And a photo cleanup feature.

If the same behavior occurs, please explain why.

Four iPhone home screens showing new Siri effect animations: The Sleep/Wake button emits pink light and becomes a glowing colorful border around the screen. In the final panel, Siri requests "What time is it in Stockholm" will be displayed with the answer.

Siri’s new design is a glowing border that momentarily distorts everything.

Your iPhone may not be able to run Apple Intelligence

The latest system update is for everyone using iPhone XS or newer, but not everyone has access to Apple Intelligence. In fact, much of the AI computation is done on the device, so only a handful of models can run the new technology.

Apple Intelligence runs on Macs and iPads with M-series processors, as well as the latest processors. iPad Mini (Powered by A17 Pro chip).

If you have one of these models, you’ll see a shiny new look when you summon Siri. On Mac, you get the same effect in the Siri search field instead of the entire edge of the screen. If you have a different model, you’ll see the same Siri Orb.

You may be slacking on the Apple Intelligence waitlist

Officially, Apple Intelligence is considered a beta feature even on supported devices. As part of this pre-release program, Apple is gradually granting access to users who request it. (Learn more about why Apple is taking this waitlist approach.)

After installing iOS 18.2 (or iPadOS 18.2 or MacOS Sequoia 15.2), you need to go to (Settings) > (Apple Intelligence & Siri) and tap (Join Apple Intelligence Waitlist) > (Join Waitlist) . New Siri effects will only appear after you request and are granted access.

Based on reports online and from friends, it appears you only have to wait a few hours to start using Apple Intelligence. This value will no doubt fluctuate as Apple balances the demands on its network of private cloud computing infrastructure.

To learn more, here are the eight settings you’ll want to change first in iOS 18.2 and the correct way to back up your iPhone before installing iOS 18.2.
