Sriram Krishnan has been appointed Senior Policy Advisor for Artificial Intelligence in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. The announcement was made by President-elect Donald Trump, who emphasized that Mr. Krishnan will play a key role in shaping AI policy across government departments. He will also work closely with David O. Sachs, the newly appointed “emperor” of AI and cryptocurrencies.

Mr. Krishnan’s educational journey began at SRM Valliammai Institute of Technology, Kattankulathur, Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. He began his career at Microsoft, working on Windows Azure APIs and services and contributing significantly to the development of Windows Azure. He also wrote a book for O’Reilly called Programming Windows Azure.

Mr. Krishnan has held key roles at several leading technology companies over the years. He joined Facebook in 2013 and helped grow the company’s mobile app download advertising business. After a stint at Facebook, he moved to Snap, where he contributed to various product initiatives. He then worked at Twitter until 2019, and after Musk acquired it in 2022, he worked with Elon Musk to rebuild the platform (now X). In 2021, Mr. Krishnan became a general partner at Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), focusing on emerging technologies, and in 2023 he led the firm’s first international office in London.

Apart from his professional role, Krishnan is also an investor and advisor to Indian fintech company Cred. He also co-hosts the podcast ‘The Aarthi and Sriram Show’ with his wife Aarthi Ramamurthy. This podcast features prominent technology leaders such as Elon Musk.

Krishnan is an AI advocate, writing an opinion piece for the New York Times proposing solutions to balance the interests of AI companies and internet platforms. He has emphasized the importance of technology-based cooperation over legal disputes.

In his new role in Washington, Krishnan will oversee AI policy coordination across U.S. government agencies, working with President Trump’s Science and Technology Advisory Council. His primary focus is on balancing regulation and innovation to ensure the United States remains a leader in AI.

Krishnan expressed his enthusiasm for the role, saying he is “honored to serve our country and ensure America’s continued leadership in AI.”
