Lindy LeeThe former Democratic Party fundraiser and strategist announced her departure from the party, criticizing the party’s treatment of her and her donations. Mr. Lee, who has raised millions of dollars for Democratic candidates, labeled the party a “cult” and criticized its spending, believing donations were wasted on people like Oprah Winfrey and Al Sharpton. They blamed us.
Lee was a key figure on the Democratic National Committee’s fundraising committee and an outspoken defender of Vice President Kamala Harris. Nevertheless, internal divisions intensified after Lee voiced criticism of Harris and the Democratic Party’s line. Her support for President-elect Donald Trump’s choice for defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, and her comments about the party’s defeat in November have heightened tensions with Democrats.
During the debate on “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” Lee said he was “distressed” by the negative response he received after criticizing Harris. She labeled the Democratic Party “tainted with the smell of failure” after its defeat in the last election. As a result of her comments, her social media followers decreased by 40,000 in just four days. She also faced personal assault, with opponents labeling her with derogatory terms and accusing her of being a “communist spy,” a remark that was made because of her family background. It upset her a lot.
Mr. Lee complained about his management of funds raised for Democrats, particularly $2.5 million earmarked for Oprah Winfrey’s production company and $500,000 allegedly used to sway Al Sharpton. expressed. She claimed that the hard-earned funds she and others had raised were being wasted. “We still don’t have any answers,” she said, alluding to a lack of accountability regarding these costs.
At her last fundraiser, she also talked about a broader shift in her political views. She blamed the Democratic Party’s insular culture and said her efforts to challenge the party’s actions were met with attack. “They pretend to hold the moral high ground,” she said. Ms Lee highlighted the party’s response to her dissent as showing a lack of inclusivity and diversity, and pointed to the vitriol she faced from those she once sought to support.
Lee elaborated on her choice to leave the Democratic Party, saying it was like freeing herself from a “cult.” She described the atmosphere at the party as stifling and that asking questions or voicing concerns had serious repercussions. “They are shrinking in strength,” she said, noting that the exclusion is pushing her toward aligning with a different political team that will treat her with more respect and courtesy.
Lee’s departure comes amid a growing trend of prominent fundraisers leaving the Democratic Party. In September, another former Obama fundraiser announced his choice to “depart” from the Democratic Party and support Trump in the upcoming election. Nevertheless, Mr. Lee remains an important figure in the fundraising community. She acknowledged that officials from Mr. Trump’s team had previously contacted her to assess her ability to generate large sums of money.
