- Just in time for the busy holiday travel season, Uber has announced new ride options.
- For those who don’t travel light, the new XXL Uber option comes with “more trunk space” for more luggage.
- Available only for rides to and from the airport, it currently serves 60 airports around the world.
For those who don’t want to travel light during the holidays, Uber’s new XXL option may be perfect for you.
The ride-hailing company’s new vehicle category will come with “access to greater trunk space,” it said in an announcement Wednesday.
Please note that the UberXXL option is only available for round-trip airport trips. It is currently available at more than 60 airports worldwide, including 40 in the United States and Canada.
So what’s the difference between this and the existing UberXL? It boils down to trunk space.
The existing UberXL option allows passengers to ride in a van or SUV that seats up to six people. The new UberXXL option guarantees trunk space and seats six people, but UberXL does not guarantee that you can freely load luggage in the trunk.
As part of its holiday travel season update, Uber announced that eligible Uber One members can receive $20 in Uber Cash on XXL rides through December 1st.
Separately, Uber is introducing a widget for iPhone users that allows them to book a ride with just two taps from their home screen. The widget requires the latest version of iOS and the latest Uber app update.
TSA expects this year’s Thanksgiving travel period to be the busiest on record, with passenger numbers already reaching record highs earlier this year. The agency expects to test 18.3 million people between Nov. 26 and Dec. 2, which would be a 6% increase from this time last year.
