Trump freezes aid in South Africa over controversial land laws, claiming discrimination against white farmers

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order aimed at freezing South Africa over a controversial law that allows the government to seize farmland from ethnic minorities, namely white farmers. Gaza.

Trump has said that the US will no longer support South Africa with foreign aid if he argues that it emphasizes a policy that amounts to “human rights violations.” Aid to South Africa unless deemed necessary.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa previously denied South African authorities “confiscated land” and his country is looking forward to working with the Trump administration “over our land reform policy.” I stated.

Trump’s orders also direct the United States to support Africans (ethnic groups that have descended from European settlers).

“It is a US policy that the US will not provide assistance or support to South Africa as long as South Africa continues to carry out these unfair and immoral practices that harm our country. And the US is a race “It shall promote resettlement of African refugees who flee government-sponsored racially-based discrimination, including discriminatory forfeiture of property,” the order read.

The South African Foreign Ministry called the order “a great concern,” saying it “has no practical accuracy and cannot recognize the profound and painful history of South Africa’s colonialism and apartheid,” the move said. “It seemed to be a campaign of misinformation and misinformation,” he added. Propaganda aimed to misrepresent our great nation. ”

“Ironically, the executive order offers US refugee status to the most economically privileged South African groups, which is the deportation of vulnerable US people from other parts of the world. It is ironic that it denies actual asylum, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added in its statement on Saturday.

In the past, racist policies have forced the removal of black and non-white South Africans from the land for use by white people. Since South Africa emerged from the apartheid era and hosted its first democratic election in 1994, the country’s constitution has had land redistribution and reparation clauses.

However, unemployment and poverty, which account for around 80% of the population, remains sharp among Black South Africans who own a portion of the land. In January, Ramaphosa signed the bill and set new guidelines for expropriation. This allowed the government to expropriate the land in some cases without compensation.

According to the US foreign support website, the country said it would send approximately $440 million in support to South Africa in 2023.

The executive order comes as the Trump administration has already frozen almost all foreign aid and has made a move to dismantle the USAID.

Trump also said in his order that South Africa has taken an offensive stance towards the US and its allies through its position on Israel, reinvigorating relations with Iran.

South Africa accused Israel of committing genocide in an unprecedented case at the UN Supreme Court of International Court of Justice (ICJ). The Israeli leader “intent to destroy the Palestinians of Gaza” and said he had called on the court to order the suspension of Israeli military movements on the enclave.

Trump previously said without citing evidence he would halt the funds until he fully investigates allegations that “South Africa has confiscated the land and treats a certain class of people very badly.”

Ramaphosa also spoke with Trump’s “first partner” and South African-born Elon Musk earlier this week. “On the issue of misinformation and distortions regarding South Africa,” highlighted the constitutionally embedded values of South Africa’s law, justice, fairness and respect. Equality,” a statement from the government at the time.

In his annual national speech, Ramaphosa said South Africa “will not be stopped.”

“As South Africans, we are resilient people and we are not bullied,” he said.
