New Delhi: UFC lightweight star Tony Ferguson has dropped out of the UFC after eight consecutive losses. Ferguson hinted at a return to the Octagon after suffering a heartbreaking loss to Michael Chiesa at UFC Fight Night in Abu Dhabi.
After the loss, Ferguson put one glove on the ground, but refused to fully commit to retirement. “I don’t want to retire,” Toney told Daniel Cormier in the post-fight interview.
Toney teased a return in 2025 on his social media, but fans demanded that he quit the UFC because they didn’t want to see him lose again in the UFC. He was one of the most beloved fighters in the organization, and fans thought another loss would further tarnish his legacy.
“As an artist, I aim to show things that have never been seen before,” he wrote.
“Happy New Year, Crew. I’m looking to 2025 – Champion. CSO #Stay tuned and watch the magic unfold. New mission approved. #Mr.Destiny. Fight News Coming soon,” he added on his social media.
Ferguson is moving from lightweight to welterweight, and Dana White will be looking for an opponent for Ferguson if he chooses to return to the UFC.
Umar Nurmagomedov is injured before his fight at the UFC 311 event.
Umar Nurmagomedov is scheduled to face UFC bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili at the UFC 311 event. The fight will take place in the main event of the night. Umar was injured late last year and management does not want him to fight at UFC 311.
Umar wanted to play before Ramadan in March this year and rejected the coach’s decision. Umar will be in the biggest fight of his career. He is undefeated in his professional MMA career.
Meanwhile, Merab won the title at UFC 306 by defeating Sean O’Malley by unanimous decision in the Sphere. This will be his first title defense since winning the belt last year.
