Amidst heavy traffic, electric cars are making the rounds, stopping at restaurants, cloud kitchens, and hotels to collect cooking oil that can no longer be used. In fact, over-cooking poses a danger to human health.

Uranus Oil Company, founded in 2020 by Vasanth JB, Venkateshwaran S. and Srindhi B., has partnered with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) in this initiative. We also only work with biodiesel plants that are registered with FSSAI.

The company started life as a start-up in this metro, has a huge footprint in Chennai, and Vasanth says it has also quietly set foot in several states across India, with the help of channel partners. He is doing business there.

“We are a young company working with the goal of promoting sustainability and circular economy across the country,” says Vasanth. “We focus on used cooking oil (UCO) because it is not only widely available, but also a waste product that is hazardous if reused or consumed by humans. Star Hotels, restaurant chains, government cafeterias, large We have an ambitious goal in mind and are working hard to achieve it in the near future. We are aiming to reach 40 tonnes,” he added.

process

First, the customer contacts Uranus Oil Company. And they are assigned a dedicated team. The representative then contacts the customer to assess whether there is a steady supply of used oil. If you do so, you will be enrolled in the company’s database and partnership program and provided with a safe used cooking oil kit and storage container.

Payment is made after the oil is hygienically collected at the customer’s location. The UCO is then stored in clean, well-ventilated tanks before being sent to our partner biodiesel manufacturers, where it is converted into biodiesel.

This business also promotes youth entrepreneurship.

“We identify regions that promote youth entrepreneurship. Many aspiring entrepreneurs want to establish sustainable livelihoods and we provide them with the opportunity to collect UCOs. This not only provides us with a revenue stream, but also creates a positive ecosystem: they collect the UCO and supply it to us, and we comply with the regulations and bio-source the oil. Transfer to diesel manufacturer currently 150. More than 100 young entrepreneurs are working with us and developing locally tailored activities,” Vasanth explains.

“Our operations exclusively use electric vehicles to minimize the use of fossil fuels, further aligning with our sustainability efforts,” adds Vasance.

They are FSSAI, FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry) certified and have applied for ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification). Their team is made up of young technology enthusiasts and experienced professionals.

Uranus Oil’s collection process focuses on gated communities and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) to ensure efficiency. “We establish partnerships with apartments and RWAs and designated members oversee the collection process,” Vasanth explains. Electric vehicles do not go to private homes to collect used cooking oil.
