Hello! I’m here from the future. And we have some news. Twelve months from now, all the CEOs of major tech companies will still have jobs, everyone will be using flip phones, Apple will be making televisions, and NVIDIA will be the most valuable company in the history of the universe. It has become a company. Wild year, huh? Or maybe not? It’s hard to remember. When you time travel, your memories become a little confused.

In this episode of The Vergecast, the second of a two-part 2025 preview, we discuss some highly questionable storylines from the end of 2025. Our resident time traveler, David, brings you some of the biggest stories that may or may not have happened. Niray Patel and Wall Street Journal columnist Joanna Stern have to help us figure out what’s true and what’s not.

Do people really buy snaps? Will GTA VI be the biggest game of all time? Will Bluesky continue its rise and leave Threads in its wake? No one knows yet, not even time travelers, but we know a few… have thoughts and ideas.

Earn points for each correct answer. Each wrong guess results in one loss. At the end of the year, we’ll add up the scores, combine them with last week’s predictions, and, whatever the outcome, we’ll buy the winner the coolest gadget of 2025. (I also need your help in making the decision, but we’ll talk about that another time.)

Do not read below until you have listened to or watched the episode. However, when it comes to tape, here are some predictions:
