Australian bowling legend Glenn McGrath on Friday looked at the unusual English conditions of the ongoing India-England series, but said the series, along with the 2024-25 border and Gabasker trophy, has restored its confidence that Test cricket is “living.”

“It was a very high score. This is a slightly unusual English requirement for Dukes cricketball. But it wasn’t a one-sided event. It was good and sturdy Test cricket. It was fun. It’s close.

“I was worried that Test cricket would be struggling a bit, but after watching the Australian and India and India series, I think Test cricket is doing well and energetic, especially in the three countries.

“Obviously, they want the game to continue as long as possible. As long as there’s something for the bowlers, they don’t care if the pitch is a little flat or not. And on the fifth day the game comes down to the wire right away, isn’t it perfect? A boring match,” he said here on the ground at MRF-Pachaiyappa.

We were asked if India should distribute volumes of Jas Pribumra Bowls to do more testing. “I know that if he just bowls with a short spell, the batting team can get through three or four overs, Australia. But yes, you need another group that comes to balance it so that he doesn’t have to bowl a long spell.”

As to whether Bumrah should consider moving away from the white ball format, he said:
