Tesla begins employment in India after PM Modi-Elon Musk meets in the US

Tesla Inc. employs in India. This is expected to enter the market shortly after CEO Elon Musk meets US Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to an ad on Monday on the LinkedIn page, the electric vehicle manufacturer searched for candidates for 13 roles, including client-facing and back-end jobs.

At least five positions were available in both Mumbai and Delhi, including service technicians and various advisory roles, while the remaining openings for Customer Engagement Manager and Delivery Operations Specialists were for Mumbai.

Tesla and India have been on and off for years, but automakers have been away from South Asian countries over concerns about high import duties. India has now cut basic tariffs on luxury cars over $40,000 from 110% to 70%.

Although the Indian EV market is still in its early stages compared to the Chinese market, it offers a way to check for slower sales after Tesla recorded its first annual decline in EV sales in over a decade. Sales of electric vehicles in India were closer to 100,000 units last year, compared to 11 million units in China.

Tesla’s Indian intentions follow the meeting between Musk and Prime Minister Modi with President Donald Trump last week in Washington. Trump later said that Prime Minister Modi agreed to begin negotiations to address the US trade deficit.

Musk is a key member of Trump’s Cabinet, but the president did not say whether the tech billionaire met Modi as CEO of a private company or in his role in the Doge team.

Musk’s role in the Trump government blurred the boundaries between his business and political interests. Last month, Italy confirmed consultations with SpaceX for masks on a contract to provide secure communications to the national government, a development that follows a meeting between then-President of Florida and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. .
