On Wednesday, impeached South Korean President Yun Seok-Yeol once again failed to respond to a summons from investigative authorities investigating the events leading up to the brief declaration of martial law on December 3, Yonhap News reported.
This is the third time that Yoon, 63, has refused to appear for questioning.
He has been charged with sedition and treason, remains suspended from office after parliament impeached him on December 14, and is awaiting trial by the Constitutional Court, which will hold his first hearing on Friday.
Mr. Yoon was asked to appear for questioning before a joint investigation team of the Office of Corruption Investigation (CIO), the police, and the Ministry of Defense in Gwacheon, south of the capital Seoul.
The chief information officer (CIO) plans to wait for Mr. Yoon, who could appear the same day. If he does not appear, the team plans to decide on further action as early as Thursday, including issuing a third summons or seeking a warrant for his arrest.
Previously, Yun refused to appear at last week’s summons by the CIO and another similar summons by prosecutors.
In Yoon’s absence, acting president and prime minister Han Do-soo will be in charge of national affairs.
