Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) has revealed that Sachin Tendulkar has accepted an invitation to become an honorary member of the reputed organization. Melbourne Cricket Club is one of the most prestigious clubs in the history of the sport and manages the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), one of the most iconic sporting venues in the world.
“An iconic figure has been recognized. The MCC is pleased to announce that former India captain Sachin Tendulkar has accepted honorary membership of Cricket in recognition of his significant contribution to the game of cricket. ” MCC announced in a post on “X”.
Sachin is considered one of the most complete batsmen in the game. He made his international debut in November 1989, at the age of 16, in a Test match against Pakistan in Karachi. The right-handed batsman went on to play 199 more matches and Test matches in his 24-year career. Sachin finished Test cricket with 15921 runs at an average of 53.78, including 51 centuries and 68 half-centuries. He also won 46 Test scalps and was considered a player with a golden arm for his talent for breaking partnerships.
In November 2013, a farewell Test against West Indies was held at Wankhede in Mumbai. Tendulkar was also a prolific run-getter for India in ODI cricket, scoring 18,426 runs in 463 matches as a ‘master blaster’. He recorded a batting average of 44.83 with the help of 49 centuries and 96 fifties. He made his ODI debut against Pakistan at Gujranwala on December 18, 1989 and his last ODI appearance was against his arch-rivals on March 18, 2012.
Tendulkar played only a solitary T20I for India. The match took place on 1 December 2006 in Johannesburg, between Wanderers and South Africa. Tendulkar, who has retired from the game, still plays in charity matches with retired players of his generation.
