New Delhi: Team India skipper and batting maestro Rohitsharma showed batting insight in their second ODI with England on Sunday at Cutter.
His scintillation century not only led India to a four-wicket victory, but also engraved his name alongside the legend of cricket.
With a dominant knock of 119 from a ball of 90, Rohit surpassed the great Sachin Tendulkar and became India’s second-highest rangeter as the opening player of international cricket.

As an opener, he currently averages 45.43 and has 15,404 runs in 343 games, and has passed 15,335 runs in 346 games in all formats of the game. Most runs as Indian openers belong to Virender Sehwag (15,758 runs), but Rohit is now within an impressive distance.

Rohit’s innings saw him join the elite list of the top 10 best Langarters in ODI history and overtook Rahul Dravid’s 10,889 runs tally. He currently sits in the 32nd century and 57th 50s with 10,987 runs at 267 ODIs and with an impressive average of 49.26 and 92.70 strike rates.

Hitman’s innings were a masterclass of timing and power hits. After a lean patch, he silenced critics by dismantling the English attacks with 12 four and seven sixes with a ferocious strike rate of 132.22. His superiority in the crease wrapped around the packed cutter crowd in his legs, enjoying every glow.

Rohit’s performance also put him within an emotional distance from the history of power hits. With his seven Six, he surpassed Chris Gale (331 Six) to win the second spot on most six lists of male ODIs. Rohit has 338 Sixes, with only Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi (351) in front of him.
In the match, England chose the bat and then made the competitive 304 courtesy of slow cameos from Joe Root (69), Ben Duckett (65), Liam Livingston (41) and Jos Butler (34). I’ve posted it.
