Prime Minister Narendra Modi will blunt Trump’s main complaints about India despite plans to meet President Donald Trump next week (12th and 13th February during his upcoming visit to the US on February 12th and 13th). Busy to explore ways – India’s accusations create customs kings, or countries that create tariff barriers for exporting products from the US to India.

The possibility of new talks with the US for mini India and US trade has been spoken by some experts, but some say India is on reducing tariff barriers for US products They claim they have already begun work. A survey conducted by India’s Central Indirect Tax Commission (CBIC) stated that average tariffs are low for at least the top 30 goods imported from the US into India.

Budget impact

For example, a recent analysis by the Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI), a New Delhi-based think tank, shows that even India’s just presented union budget 2025-26 introduced significant tariff reductions on multiple products. It points out.

“Among major tariff cuts, India has reduced its hydrolysate mandate for fish feed production from 15% to 5%. Another notable tariff cut is to be Ethernet under the “Other” category. It affected the switch (carrier grade), and duties were reduced from 20% to 10%. The US exported $653.4 million worth of these products to India in 2024, making it a major trade benefit. Similarly, India has reduced tariffs on synthetic flavor essences from 100% to 20%. This is the category in which US exports reached $21 million in 2024,” notes founder GTRI.

According to a GTRI study, India reduced tariffs to zero for the ground installation of satellites, including spares and consumables, another potential area where American exporters can benefit. India imported $92 million worth of these products from the US in 2023, but these trade activities fell sharply the following year.

Budget 2025-26 reduced motorcycle tariffs based on engine capacity. For motorcycles with engine capacity less than 1,600cc, tariffs have been reduced from 50% to 40%, while for motorcycles with engine capacity more than 1,600cc, tariffs have been reduced from 50% to 30%. During his previous term as US president, Trump was particularly vocal about Indian tariffs on Harley’s Davidson motorcycle. US motorcycle exports to India were $3 million in 2024. Current tariff cuts could be seen as another US-friendly step. The union budget also proposed elimination of tariffs on certain waste and scrap items, reducing the obligation to zero to 5%. The US exported a total of $2.5 billion worth of waste and waste to India in 20124, GTRI said.

“Trump has often criticised India’s tariff policy, but these latest cuts indicate policy changes that could bolster US exports across different sectors: technology, automobiles, industrial inputs, waste. With major tariff cuts on imports, India appears to be taking steps to promote trade even when the global trade environment remains tense,” Srivastava said.

Top Commodities

According to CBIC Chairman Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, tariffs on crude oil have already been very low as the best imports from the US from the US are only attracted by 1 rupees per metric ton. Similarly, steam and coking coal obligations were 2.5%, and LNG was 5% import duties even before the 2025-26 budget. He said that there is zero obligation to import airlines by scheduled operators in India, with chemicals and petrochemists 7.5% compared to an average obligation to import industrial products above 10%. He said he only got the obligation.
