NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday cited economic data on gold loans, personal consumption, food inflation and household debt to argue that there is no solution to the economic turmoil his government has caused, Congress said.

“Gold loans grew by 50% and gold loan NPAs surged by 30%.Personal consumption – The total amount of goods and services purchased by households has slowed over the past eight quarters and is now back to pre-COVID-19 levels. has not recovered,” Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge wrote in X.

“Narendra Modiji, your annual ‘New Year’s resolution’ is nothing but a ‘Jumla’ to destroy the lives of all our people,” he added.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also said that according to the RBI, the income of Indian households is continuously decreasing and the number of borrowers is increasing.

“According to the World Inequality Database, economic inequality has increased more under the BJP than under British rule,” she wrote in X.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh highlighted the high default rate on gold loans that Indian families used to attack the prime minister.

“The Modi government’s rampant nepotism, erratic policy decisions and distorted priorities have given it the dubious honor of being the only government in the history of independent India to steal the Mangalsutra from women.” wrote Ramesh to X.
