Portugal ends partnership with Nike. Announces PUMA as new sponsor

Nike had a 27-year partnership with the Selecao.

The Portuguese national soccer team has signed a long-term deal with Puma, ending a 27-year partnership with Nike, which previously produced its uniforms.

The Portuguese and German sportswear giants have signed a multi-year deal starting in 2025. Portugal’s men’s and women’s national teams, consisting of futsal, beach football and esports teams, will receive jerseys from PUMA, which is also working with the following teams: Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund and several national teams including Austria and Mohamed Salah’s Egypt.

Nike has supplied Portugal’s kits since 1997, and the American sportswear company still has a deal with Portugal’s top player, Cristiano Ronaldo.

PUMA CEO Arne Freund said: “Partnering with top national teams is one of our priorities in football and we are thrilled to welcome a team as popular as Portugal to the PUMA family. I’m excited about it.” Given the large number of Selecao fans around the world and the huge potential of the new generation of players, we are looking forward to the next major tournament like the World Cup in 2026. ”

Portugal’s next match will be against Denmark in the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals in March. Expect them to take to the field in new uniforms.

Portugal had previously worked with Adidas, Olympique, Carne and Marlec before Nike entered into a long-term partnership with the national team.

Despite the termination, Ronaldo remains one of Nike’s biggest promoters, given that the former Real Madrid star has signed a lifetime deal with Nike.

This is a big moment for Puma as they will be sponsoring one of the top national teams. We plan to start supplying shirts with new designs soon.

Portugal joins Austria, Iceland, Czech Republic, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Morocco, Egypt, Switzerland and Paraguay as part of PUMA’s portfolio of top international football teams. Furthermore, the company has supply contracts with big clubs such as Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan and Manchester City.
