oppo find n5 is what pixel 9 pro fold wanted (gallery)

Last year’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold proved to be the most impressive generation upgrade we’ve ever seen in the folding version, but it certainly wasn’t the “end” to push the envelope. Just a few months later, Oppo is preparing to launch the Find N5 as the “thinest in the world” foldable, and after getting it, you can only compare it to pixels.

Oppo’s Discovery N5 has been teased for some time, but was fully announced on February 20th. The new folding system has been touted by Oppo as “the thinner of the world”, and previous teasers show that the device is barely thicker than that device. USB-C port.

I recently managed to check out the Oppo Find N5 directly, but I can’t share much about it ahead of the full release next week, but what I can do is show off the hardware. A back that intrigus the device.

Oppo has been really good at Foldables from the start. Find N and Find N2 are master classes in how to build this hardware, and their adorable, compact form factor is something that we still miss today. In 2023, the company dumped the smaller footprint for the much larger and thinner device of the Find N3, which was launched globally as the OnePlus Open. It was a device that actually showed where Oppo shines with its foldable glow. It’s now combined with what’s truly impressive, thin form factor.

The Oppo Find N5 is just a razor-thin trambling, similar to the Honor’s Magic V3 released last year. When unfolds, it is an eye-opening sight. My first thought was that we were finished at this point. Literally, the folding doesn’t have to be thinner. Because when closed, this device is barely thicker than the average smartphone and is still not thinner than some options.

Oppo has briefly released a video (which has since been removed) that confirms that the device is less than 9mm when closed. However, it has not been publicly confirmed elsewhere, so it should be taken with a single grain of salt. But if it proves true, it is alongside Oppo’s claim that the device is “the thinnest in the world” foldable.

For most of last year, I felt that the Pixel 9 Pro fold was foldable and fit the same goal. It was thin enough where you don’t really notice any major differences when closed compared to a regular smartphone. I still think that’s pretty much true, but Oppo really shows what today’s technology can do, and the Find N5 is pretty close to what Google was ultimately aiming for with the latest Pixel folding You need to imagine that.

There are many similarities between these two devices, with the same matte but sticky metal frame with a sticky finish and a frost glass back that is still quite slippery. I can’t see the display yet, but I think Oppo really pushed the envelope and Google probably wanted a Pixel 9 Pro fold.

Additionally, the inner display is absolutely impressive, with virtually zero notable creases running through the center. In this regard, I found the N3/OnePlus Open already very good. Despite cutting off most of the thickness, Oppo has improved this time.

The Oppo Find N5 is set to be announced on February 20th, and this time it appears to be ready for a global release. There is no word yet about the OnePlus version of this device, but it is likely that such a device is in the pipeline.

What do you think about Find N5?
