Safe Superintelligence, an artificial intelligence startup co-founded by former Openai chief scientist Ilya Sutskever last year, is in talks to raise funds at a valuation of at least $20 billion, four sources told Reuters I did. This has quadrupled its $5 billion valuation from its final funding round in September and raised $1 billion from five investors, including Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz and DST Global.

SSI funding tests the ability of high-profile AI ventures to continue their premium ratings following an industry-wide reassessment last month when Chinese startup DeepSeek unveiled low-cost AI.

The unprofitable SSI says its mission is to develop a “safe super tension” that is clever than humans, while consistent with human interests.

Conversations with existing and new investors are still in the early stages, and conditions may still change, sources said this week that they requested anonymity to discuss private issues. Ta. It was not clear how much money SSI was trying to raise.

SSI, which was established in June with its Palo Alto and Tel Aviv offices, did not respond to requests for comment. Sutskever co-founders are Daniel Gross, who previously led the AI initiative at Apple, and Daniel Levy, a former Openai researcher.

Secret Startup

Beyond the rough explanation of the company’s goals for safe AI, little is known about secret startups and their work. What has sparked interest among investors is Satsukeiber’s reputation and the novel approach he says his team is working on.

In AI Circle, he is a legend of his contributions to breakthroughs that underpin the frenzy of AI’s investments. He was an early advocate of scaling, which means dedicating enormous amounts of computing power and data to refine AI models.

The concept is the foundation that led to generative AI like Openai’s ChatGpt, setting up a course of hundreds of billions of dollars in investments in chips, data centers and energy.

Sutskever was seen early on seeing potential caps for such approaches as the pool of data available to train models is decreasing. By recognizing the AI stage when trained models draw conclusions, he founded a team that worked on what would become the inference model for Openai’s latest series. We have set a wider new research direction. Next.

Clearing that it does not expect a short-term crash from investors, SSI said it intends to “expand in peace” by asserting progress from short-term commercial pressures.

This sets you apart from other AI labs. This began as a nonprofit organization, but shifted its focus to commercial products after CHATGPT unexpectedly took off in 2022. Last year, it generated nearly $4 billion in revenue and this year it forecasts $11.6 billion in revenue.

Little is known about the SSI approach. In an interview with Reuters last year, Satsukeiber, 38, said that SSI pursues a new direction of research and calls it a “new mountain to climb,” but has shared little other details.

Fundraising activities by so-called foundation model companies show no signs of slowing down. Openai is in discussions to double its valuation to $300 billion, but rival humanity has finalised a funding round valued at $60 billion.

Still, investors are facing new questions about their traits betting with confusion from Chinese startup DeepSeek.

Deepseek’s popularity knocked nearly $600 billion from Nvidia’s market capitalization in late January. However, according to a recent revenue statement, it has never thwarted Big Technology from cultivating higher investments in AI infrastructure this year.
