DeepLearning.AI has released a new free short course titled “Reasoning with o1.” This course was introduced in partnership with Colin Jarvis, Head of AI Solutions at OpenAI.
“Unlike previous language models that directly generate output, o1 thinks before responding and generates many inference tokens before returning a more thoughtful and accurate response,” said DeepLearning.AI founder Andrew Ng said on Linkedin.
Recently, OpenAI announced API access to the o1 model, an inference-centric AI designed for advanced tasks such as workflow planning, coding, and domain-specific problem solving.
This is interesting because OpenAI wants to release o3 today, a smarter and faster version of its 0 series models. “If I had one clue, I should have said ah, ah,” OpenAI head Sam Altman wrote on X, hinting at the release of the next model.
This course teaches users how to optimize the functionality of o1. Learn about task identification, new prompting techniques, multistep orchestration using models such as GPT-4o-mini, coding applications, and understanding images. It also introduces meta prompts, where o1 adjusts prompts to improve results. This course highlights how reinforcement learning improves o1 performance and enables users to effectively leverage models in AI applications.
DeepLearning.AI currently offers over 50 free, concise courses on effective and secure techniques for deploying generative AI products. The platform also offers specialized courses and programs on a wide range of topics such as data engineering, machine learning, and deep learning.
Andrew has played a pivotal role in making AI education more accessible. He has reached over 7 million learners around the world who are using the platform to get an edge in their careers. Notably, he is also a co-founder of Coursera and was recently appointed to Amazon’s board of directors.
