OnePlus 13 update adds on-device Gemini Nano AI model
What’s particularly interesting about this update is that it appears to have added on-device Gemini Nano AI support to OnePlus 13, although it hasn’t been officially confirmed. Android expert Mishaal Rahman (via Android Authority) discovered that Android AICore apps are downloaded. Also install Gemini Nano models on compatible devices for offline AI tasks. Now available after the latest OnePlus 13 update.
Rahman pointed out that the OnePlus 13 did not include the Android AICore app before the update. However, after the update, the app appeared in the Play Store as updatable. Rahman also mentioned that opening Magic Compose in the Google Messages app on the OnePlus 13 triggers a download for the Gemini Nano model, and that we can reproduce this behavior on our end.

Products with new Gemini Nano with multimodality
However, the OnePlus 13 isn’t the only non-Google Pixel smartphone to support on-device Gemini. Devices like Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Xiaomi 14T Pro also offer on-device Gemini Nano support. This feature enables many AI tasks that would normally rely on the cloud to be performed offline, such as using Magic Compose in the Google Messages app.
Google Pixel 9 series supports a new version of Gemini Nano with multimodality and enables even more features like screenshot processing and smart replies in Gboard for Pixel screenshots. Rahman speculates that the OnePlus 13 may also support Gemini Nano in multi-modality given that it is supported by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, but there is no confirmation yet.
We will keep you updated with more information about the Gemini Nano and its features coming to the OnePlus 13 series. However, now that the Android AICore app is available and Magic Compose is functional, it won’t be long before OnePlus expands the use of its Gemini Nano model for other AI tasks.
