BHUBANESWAR: Odisha Energy Department has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bhubaneswar. The partnership aims to advance cutting-edge research and innovation in renewable energy technologies while strengthening workforce capabilities in the energy sector.
This initiative is in line with Odisha’s vision of sustainability and achieving India’s national net-zero emissions target by 2070. It aims to position Odisha as a leader in renewable energy innovation and contribute to India’s energy transition goals, while addressing critical challenges in decarbonization and energy security. On the way to “VIKSIT ODISHA”.
The partnership will focus on developing advanced solutions in solar, wind, hydro and waste-to-energy technologies. We will also explore innovations in energy storage systems, including battery energy storage systems (BESS), pumped storage projects (PSP), and green hydrogen technologies.
In addition, the partnership will advance research in microgrid technologies utilizing distributed renewable energy (DRE) sources, energy efficient building design, grid integration strategies, and climate science.
Capacity development initiatives form a key element of the partnership, which features professional training programs and opportunities for student and faculty interaction. These initiatives aim to develop a globally competitive workforce capable of meeting new challenges in the renewable energy space.
The signing of this MoU coincided with Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam’s visit to India from January 14 to 18, 2025. The visit marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore and underlines the strong partnership between the two countries. Singapore has further extended its support as the first country partner for the flagship event ‘Utkarsh Odisha Conclave 2025’ scheduled for January 28-29.
The memorandum exchange ceremony, which was held in the presence of Singapore President Tarman Shanmugaratnam and Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, included Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Singapore Transport Minister and Second Finance Minister, Odisha State Minister Deputy CM Chee Hong Tat, Odisha Deputy CM KV Singh Deo, Odisha Deputy CM Pravati Parida, senior officials of Singapore NTU, IIT Government of Bhubaneswar and Odisha.
