The former tennis star claims Novak Djokovic has been “disqualified for life” in the incident that began a Davis Cup match in chaos on Sunday. Chile lost a qualifying match against Belgium after Christian Garin was defeated by his opponent Zizou Bergs and refused to continue playing.
The jubilant Bergs was celebrating the stakes of Garin to 6-5 the set he decides when he clumsyly wipes out his opponent. His right shoulder came into contact with Chile’s face, causing him to crash into the floor.
Bergs apologized immediately, but Garin needed treatment. Medic gave the 28-year-old all clears, an attitude contested by the Chilean team doctor, but he did not return to court.
Chile was violated three times in a row, resulting in a game penalty, with Belx winning the controversial 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.
Former World No. 16 Nikolos Basilashvili wrote on social media: WTF. “
Djokovic was disqualified from the 2020 US Open.
In response to the incident between Bergs and Garin, the International Tennis Federation stated:
“We understand the emotions that come with this extraordinary incident, but the final decision was made after considering all the facts and unique circumstances surrounding it.”
Alejandro Orizola, a doctor with the Chilean team, disputed Garin’s verdict of neutral medics, claiming it was unfit to continue.
He states: This led to swelling, difficulty vision, nausea and a serious headache, but he did not lose consciousness. Christian Garin couldn’t continue playing. ”
Garin is reported to have told the judge: You don’t have the courage to do it to me! “
The Chilean Tennis Federation added: “After being attacked by a Belgian player, Christian was not paying attention from the neutral physician appointed by the organization.
“In spite of this situation, Portuguese referee Carlos Ramos examined the continuity of the match and urged players to return to the match. However, he was subject to dizziness and inflammation of the eyes. He was disqualified because he couldn’t do so.
“Because of this injustice, we have launched all relevant actions before the International Tennis Federation (ITF) in order to defend the interests of athletes and Chilean tennis in front of the International Tennis Federation (ITF). I’m announcing that I’ll do it.”
